Women In Art Prize 2024

Now in its 7th year, the Women In Art Prize is again open to all emerging women artists* that are Painters, Photographers, illustrators and Printmakers who are living and working in the UK.

With an awarded prize for one Overseas Artist.

Women in Art is delighted to announce the details for The Women in Art Emerging Artist Prize

Generously sponsored by The Eve Arnold Award, Susan Angoy,  The Tim May Memorial, The Art Academy London, Printed Editions, Turner Art Perspectives, Hampstead School of Art, Cass Art, Hosking House, Zebra One Gallery, and The Mall Galleries, Flux, Forge Art Fair, Casildart Contemporary, Square Feet Gallery. The Women in Art Prize is part of a wider project to assist and celebrate women artists and focuses on the careers of emerging female artists

 

This prize aims to support, encourage and mentor emerging women artists

Each year 22 artists are chosen from this competition to exhibit in London.

Women in Art also administers a Photography Prize, An Illustration Prize and a Printed Works prize

 

This competition offers a genuine opportunity for emerging women artists to further their careers and for art collectors to invest in the future of the art world’s emerging talent. All details can be found on our website

THE PRIZES YOU CAN WIN

Painting First Prize: The Women In Art Initiative £1000

The Photography First Prize: Eve Arnold Award £1000. 

 

Painting Runner-up Prize - £500

Photography Runner Prize: £250

 

A Solo Exhibition at The Cass Art and £250 worth of Art vouchers to spend in the store, 

Winning Work displayed at Zebra One Gallery, Hampstead for one month, Feature in Fabric Magazine: 50,000 monthly copies, 

Interview and studio visit/outreach campaign

 

One lucky finalist will get a booth at @forgeartfair in November 2024,

 

​The Susan Angoy Artist of African and Caribbean Heritage Award: £1500

This prize is open to Women Artists who have one of the following categories of Heritage:

  • Black African

  • Black Caribbean

  • Black Other

  • Mixed – White and Black Caribbean

  • Mixed – White and Black African

  • Other mixed backgrounds (to include Black African, Black Caribbean or Black Other)

  •  

The artist must be truly emerging and be happy to provide a supporting statement.

Outlining how being the recipient of this award would make A difference,

How it would further enhance their artistic development will be taken into consideration.

The Winner will feature on Casildart Contemporary the Home of Black Fine Artists website and socials

 

 

The Tim May Memorial Prize: £1500

This prize is open to all emerging women Artists

and will be donated by His widow Susan Angoy

The artist must be truly emerging and be happy to provide a supporting statement.

Outlining how being the recipient of this award would make A difference,

How it would further enhance their artistic development will be taken into consideration

 

The Art Academy London will offer a free place on one of their masterclass weekends as a prize for 2024

 

Printed Editions for their support for The Women in Art Prize 2024,

The Print winner will receive a dedicated page on www.printed-editions.com for 3 months.

Dedicated mailshots to collectors.

Promotion of artwork on social media.

The Artist can list up to 12 prints

 

Genesis Imaging £250 worth of Printing or Retouching for your next project.

Private View and Exhibition at Square Feet Gallery in Marylebone, London

BEST OVERSEAS ARTIST - OPEN TO ALL ARTISTS OUTSIDE THE UK - £250 -

Please note that overseas artists are only eligible for the overseas prize, they will not be eligible for any of the other prizes.

The winner will have their work made into a print and framed for the exhibition in 2023 at the expense of the Women in Art Prize.

 

The Women in Art People's Vote Prize - £250 

 

The Women in Art Award for Young Woman Artists (26 years and Under) - £250

 

HSoA Abstract Painting Prize -  which is an exhibition at Hampstead School of Art. Applicants must be emerging artists who have a complete body of work

 

HSoA Young Artist Prize – a Hampstead School of Art course (costs up to £400). Applicants must be aged 18 to 25 years old. 

 

Artter Magazine is an exclusive digital platform

dedicated to showcasing and supporting true talents worldwide to help them get the recognition and exposure they truly deserve!

Founded by a female artist and art businesswoman @baharakjourabchi Artter is offering full interviews with the winners

 

Art on a Postcard all our finalists will be entered into the 2025 International Women's Day Auction

SELECTION

 

Selection for the exhibition will be made solely on the artwork submitted, but to be eligible for The Women In Art Prize, the entrant must provide an artist's statement that demonstrates how this award would impact their opportunity to expand their practice, how they aim to develop and further their career: this statement should be no more than 300 words in length. 

 

CONDITIONS FOR ENTRY

 

  • Any female artist over 18 may submit providing they are living and working in the UK. Overseas women artists may apply for the Overseas Prize. 

  •  

  • Acceptable media: Paintings in Oil, Acrylic, watercolour and Pastels,

  •  

  • Photography Can be Digital or Analogue.

  • Illustration / Drawing

  •  

  • Printed Works

 

  • Work must have been completed in the last two years.

  •  

  • Maximum of two works submitted. Only one work will be chosen.

  •  

  • Works should not be larger than 1 metre wide or 130 cm high (including the frame)

  •  

  • If Chosen for an Award which leads to Exhibiting, your Paintings should be completely dry at the time of delivery.

  •  

  • All chosen work would be for sale.

  •  

  • It will be assumed that the sale price includes the commissions. Please allow for these points when pricing your work.

 

Exhibited works must be framed unless agreed with the admin beforehand.

 

* Mixed media will be accepted if the major part of the work is painterly *

 

 

HOW TO ENTER

  • Please read the terms and conditions below before you enter.

  • You can make two (separate) entries. It costs a total of £25 to enter up to two works. You will be charged £25 for the first entry and then be allowed to enter a second work for free.

 

The student's Fee is £15 and you have to upload your identification with your submission

  •  

  • Choose a category for your work to qualify for specific prizes (Painting, Photography, Illustration, Print)

  • Please upload 1 image of good quality (see our website for hints on what makes a good image)

  • Please upload an artist's statement if you want to be considered for specific prizes as indicated. (If you do not enter an Artist Statement you will still be eligible for all other prizes but not prizes where a statement is needed

  •
