Tell us what you need!

Sue Ecclestone

We have set up Women in Art CIC especially to do all we can to help women artists. We are limited to what we can do by funding, but we are doing our best to build that fund and we would like to know how best to use any money that comes our way.

You as women artists know best what you need to progress your careers. It will differ from person to person and you are best placed to let us know what you need. So please get involved, comment below and tell us what you would like to see Women in Art CIC provide for you!

I echo the above comments regards opportunities for 40+ artists.

I am adventuring in talking to selling galleries and collectors. What I'm finding is there is so little to go on regards understanding what the galleries intentions and expectations are if you are an artist (as opposed to a buyer, there's heaps of advice on that). I do not wish to be (and hopefully will not be) fleeced, so any guidance and advice on the business end of things would be much appreciated. Knowing who to trust is obviously something that can only be acquired but red flags to look out for would be super useful/a guide of standards/what to expect. Maybe even a support page where we can s…

My individual situation would be improved if there was practical advice and mentoring regarding the setting up of collective studio spaces under the umbrella of a charitable organisation

Hello I create work in different ways so id be interested to see if you will have any boundaries, eg i sculpt, work with natural materials, paint and explore. It will be useful to offer co peer / mentor support training related to artist at different stages in their careers assisting with focus and exploration / direction, practicals skills related to identifying and reaching potential audience engaging with business sector etc who have different drivers, understanding how to convey information are all useful tools that are learned over time and many do not have, as said previously by other responders quite often the support offered seems to focus on young people especially in areas where there is no local organ…

Hello,

I would love support and celebration of older women artists who are returning to art after raising a family,or taking up art following a career change. We bring with us a wisdom and passion for making art and an appreciation of time spent creatively. Exhibiting opportunities and any grants / bursaries available would be great. This year I have spent a lot of money on being an artist ..website,marketing course, mentoring programme, submission fees, materials and framing, possibly recouped 1/3 of this from sales of my work .Any advice on bursaries gratefully received, thank you,Sarah

I’d like to echo your comments. I’m living the dream of my younger self as I pursue my twilight career as an artist. Like Sarah, I’ve had some sales in 2021, but not enough to cover the costs of memberships, courses, materials, and marketing.

I try to draw on my experience in business and apply it to my art practice. Practical advice would be amazing.

This seems to be a common one so we need to find a way to do this! Thank you for that suggestion - WIA team
